RAINBOW OF POSSIBILITIES + TOP MEMORIES FROM 2011

I woke up to a rainbow yesterday. Literally, a rainbow was across the ceiling in my old bedroom. I took some photos with my cell and dozed back off. When I woke up again, it was gone. Not sure what the rainbow thing means, but it gave me a sense of calm.

Right now, I’m still enjoying time with my family. I’ve been recharging and reflecting for the past couple of weeks. This year was kind of a blur for me, it went by fast. A lot of my dreams came to life in 2011, but I now realize I barely took the time out to actually enjoy them. My plan for 2012 is to be more organized and to actually take more time to reflect and appreciate what I have. With that said, here are some of my top memories of 2011.

- My first book my published.
- Spoke on 4 blogging panels.
- Was invited to the White House for a 2nd time.
- Was a keynote speaker.
- Walked in a Fashion Show.
- Styled a high-profile fashion shoot.
- Became a CNN.com contributor.
- Headed 5 advertising meetings.
- Won a Lifetime Achievement Award.
- Started writing poetry again.

I also experienced a lot of epiphanies this year and learned a lot about myself. I have a feeling 2012 will be an even better year. The sky is the limit. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!

Angel, I've been a fan of yours for years and I must say that it is a joy to see how you've grown and matured. I'm in my twenties just like you and 2011 has been the year where I've realized that everyone is not your friend. I was a good friend to a girl that I thought was my "friend" but she only used me to help jump start her small business. How in the world do you avoid being used by other people? I want to put my guard up and never trust anyone again, how can I avoid doing that?

First off, thank you for your positive words. I have grown a lot in the past couple of years and I’m finally happy in my skin. Took awhile, but God is Good!

As for your question about trusting or being used by people, it goes kinda deep. I’ve been in the same exact situation numerous times. People have used me as stepping stones for their career or for a connection and I go back to what my Mom taught me. If you were genuinely their friend or helped them out because you wanted nothing in return, it is not your problem. That’s their own issues. Of course you can be upset about the situation, but don’t dwell on it. Make a mental note and keep it moving. There are still plenty of good people in the world. Just be wary of who you let in your inner circle. Get to know them. People show their true colors when you first meet them and we choose not to see it. Some of the same people (friends, etc) who played me, were always that way. I just chose to see what I wanted to. Keep being you and don’t let them change that. And definitely don’t let them take the positivity from your life. Keep it moving and make 2012 another great year!!
